Trauma Recovery Therapy

A holistic approach to mental, physical and emotional healing

Trauma Recovery Therapy

Trauma means wound and we all have wounds in our history. Grief, relationship hardship, bullying, phobias. Some heal naturally, but some remain open and that can make us more vulnerable to living a life looking in our rear view mirror. Talking helps but talking therapy has little efficacy in helping these wounds heal. To remember them often by their nature means reliving them.

At its core, trauma is not merely an event but rather the body’s profound reaction to it—a sentiment eloquently captured by renowned physician and trauma expert, Dr. Gabor Maté, who famously stated, “Trauma is not what happens to you, but what happens inside you as a result of what happens to you.”

Trauma can stem from a myriad of experiences, ranging from childhood abuse and neglect to natural disasters, accidents, or combat exposure. Its impact is deeply personal and can manifest in various ways, often influencing emotional, psychological, and even physical well-being.

For some, it may manifest as debilitating anxiety, intrusive memories, or persistent feelings of shame and guilt. Others may experience a sense of numbness or detachment from their emotions and surroundings, while physical symptoms such as chronic pain, insomnia, or autoimmune disorders may also arise as the body’s response to unresolved trauma.

The way trauma presents itself can vary greatly from person to person, influenced by factors such as genetics, developmental history, and individual coping mechanisms. Some individuals may exhibit symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), while others may develop complex trauma responses characterised by difficulties in regulating emotions, forming relationships, and maintaining a sense of self.

In the face of such complexity, the collaboration of four therapists specializing in distinct modalities offers a beacon of hope for those grappling with the aftermath of trauma. Their integrated approach recognizes the multifaceted nature of trauma and seeks to address its impact on all levels—emotional, psychological, and physiological—providing clients with a comprehensive pathway to healing and restoration.

Rachael, Helen, Jane and Sarah offer unique expertise, and form a dynamic team poised to transform the landscape of trauma treatment.
