Meet Sarah

Acupuncture Therapy

Sarah

My journey in Acupuncture started when I was suffering from chronic back pain. I tried many things to relieve this but the most impressive results for me came from acupuncture which I found it to be remarkably effective. I originally worked in the corporate world as a Graphic Designer, eventually running my own business. This has given me a good understanding of the stresses and strains, both mental and physical, that life and work can throw at us and the impact this has on our health.

I enjoy spending time with my family and I love walking my two dogs.. they have become my babies now that my own babies have flown the nest! I also enjoy trying my best to keep fit with spinning and yoga.

What is your education, training and accreditations?

I hold a BSc (Hons) degree and Lic. A., from the prestigious College of Integrated Chinese Medicine. I am a member of the BAcC (British Acupuncture Council) and the BMAS (British Medical Acupuncture Society). These governing bodies are regulated by the professional standards authority

I hold postgraduate certificates in musculoskeletal practices, electroacupuncture, cancer care and auricular acupuncture to name a few.

Do you work with Children under the age of 18?

I am insured and qualified to work on children and adults.  Children under the age of 16 need to be present with an adult preferably over the age of 21.

How do I know if you and therapy are right for me? How will we assess progress?

I am very happy to answer any questions that you have over the phone before the initial consultation. If you would like to book a session, a patient intake form will be sent to you for completion. Our first meeting is around 1.5 hours and includes a thorough health history. Subsequent appointments are between 45 minutes and 1 hour long.

Treatment frequency depends very much on the individual, but we do review after 5 sessions to ensure that you feel you are getting the most out of acupuncture and its benefits.

How long is each session and how much does it cost?

Initial appointment – 1.5 hours – £70.

Follow ups – 45mins to 1 hour – £50.

I practice from therapy rooms in Marlow, Farnham Common and Reading. Whichever is convenient for you.

What can I expect in my first session?

This session is about getting to know you. We will go through a number of questions relating to your main and secondary complaints, a full medical history and information relating to your body systems (sleep, appetite, energy levels etc).

It is a marker as to how you are feeling physically and emotionally on that day and information we can refer back to as treatment progresses.

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body. By stimulating these points, acupuncture aims to restore the balance of energy flow throughout the body.

Acupuncture is often used to address a wide range of health issues, including chronic pain, headaches, digestive disorders, respiratory conditions, and emotional imbalances like stress and anxiety. While it’s commonly associated with pain relief, acupuncture is also used as a complementary therapy to support overall well-being and promote holistic health.

From a Western perspective acupuncture has an influence on;

Neurotransmitter Release: Inserting needles into specific points can stimulate nerves, leading to the release of endorphins (natural painkillers) and other neurotransmitters, which can help alleviate pain and improve mood.

Blood Flow: Acupuncture may increase blood flow to certain areas of the body, which can promote healing and reduce inflammation.

Regulation of Autonomic Nervous System: Acupuncture has an influence on the autonomic nervous system, which controls involuntary bodily functions such as heart rate, digestion, and respiratory rate, helping to regulate these functions.
